Snake Brawlers Privacy Policy
Short version: the game has no account and no advertising, and your progress stays on your own device. The first time you play, it asks whether you want to share game statistics (how smoothly it runs, how runs go, whether the bots are fair). If you say yes, those statistics go to Google Analytics. If you say no, nothing is sent. You can change your answer at any time in the game's Options.
This policy covers the game Snake Brawlers(com.sunnybyte.snakebrawlers) on Android and iOS. The policy for the Sunnybyte website itself is here.
Who is responsible
Sunnybyte is the trading name of Matthias Kraft, an independent software developer based in Geneva, Switzerland. Sunnybyte is a brand, not a registered company. I am the data controller for everything described here.
Questions, or any request about your data: dev (at) sunnybyte (dot) dev.
What the game never collects
The game has no account, no login, no sign-up, no advertising and no chat. It does not ask for your e-mail address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photos, microphone or camera, and it cannot read them. The nickname you type is never sent anywhere. The game does not use your device's advertising identifier: on Android the permission for it is removed from the app, and on iOS the game never asks for tracking permission.
Game statistics, only if you say yes
On first launch the game shows one question, Share stats or Keep private, with both answers equally easy. Until you answer yes, the statistics service is switched off and nothing is sent. The answer is stored on your device, and the Share stats switch in Options changes it whenever you like.
Why
To make the game better to play: to see whether it runs smoothly on real phones, to find bugs (especially in how collisions between snakes are judged), and to tune things like how crowded the arena is and how hard the bots are. The statistics arenever used for advertising, never sold, and never used to build a profile of you.
What is sent, if you agree
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| What happens in the game | Runs started and ended, world and level, score, coins earned and spent, how a run ended, items tried on and bought with in-game coins, which screens are opened and which buttons are pressed, options changed, tutorial steps |
| How a collision was judged | For your own deaths and saves: the angle, speeds and sizes of the two snakes and where the hit landed, measured in the game's own units |
| How well the game runs | Frame times, the game's build number, available memory, screen refresh rate |
| Device and app information | Device model, operating system version, language, app version, and the country and city derived by Google from your connection (Google Analytics does not store the IP address) |
| A random app identifier | Created by the statistics library so that the events of one installation can be counted together. It is not your advertising identifier, not your device's hardware identifier, and it is replaced when you switch statistics off |
Your nickname, the names of the snakes and anything else you type are never included. I do not link these statistics to your Google account or any other identity: the features that would (Google Signals, User-ID) are switched off.
Who processes it
The statistics are processed by Google Analytics for Firebase, a service of Google Ireland Limited (for users in Europe and Switzerland) and Google LLC, acting as my processor under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms, which I have accepted. In the Analytics settings, sharing with Google for its own purposes (improving Google products, benchmarking, technical support access, account recommendations) is switched off, and ads personalisation is disabled in every region. Google may process the data on servers outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States, under the safeguards in those terms (standard contractual clauses and the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks). Google's own description is at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Legal basis and how long it is kept
The legal basis is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a), and the consent required for storing an identifier on your device). Google Analytics deletes the detailed event data after 14 months; only aggregated reports that cannot identify anyone remain after that.
Changing your mind
Turn off Share stats in Options. From that moment nothing more is sent, and the random app identifier on your device is reset, so anything sent before can no longer be connected to your installation. Uninstalling the game has the same effect. If you would like the statistics already sent to be deleted before the 14 months are up, write to me at the address below; because the data is tied only to a random identifier, I may need you to tell me roughly when you played and on which device so that I can find it.
What it stores on your device
So that the game can remember your progress between sessions, it saves the following on the device itself, in the app's own private storage. None of it is uploaded:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A nickname you choose | Shown on your snake and the in-game leaderboard, which is generated locally |
| Best score and highest level reached | To display your personal record |
| Coin balance, items owned and equipped | So purchases made with in-game coins persist |
| World progress | To resume where you left off |
| Sound, music, haptics and display options | To keep your settings |
| Your answer to the statistics question | So the question is asked once, and your choice is respected |
If you agreed to share statistics, the statistics library also keeps its random app identifier and a short queue of events waiting to be sent. Uninstalling the game deletes all of it.
About the permissions the app declares
- INTERNET: used only to send the statistics described above, and only if you agreed to share them.
- ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE and WAKE_LOCK: let the statistics library check for a connection before sending and finish sending a batch. They read nothing about you.
- Install referrer (Android): lets the statistics library learn from Google Play which store page led to the install. It is used only if you agreed to share statistics.
- VIBRATE: the controller rumble and button feedback. You can turn haptics off in the game's options.
What Google and Apple collect
The game is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store, and each store collects its own data when you find, install, update or review an app: your store account, device model and country, for example. That processing is theirs, under Google's Privacy Policyand Apple's Privacy Policy, and is outside my control. From the stores themselves I receive only anonymous, aggregated statistics (install and uninstall counts, ratings, crash reports stripped of identity), which cannot identify you.
Children
The game has no chat, no social feature and no user-to-user contact of any kind, and it collects nothing from anyone unless the statistics question is answered yes. The statistics never include a name or any contact detail. If you are a parent and your child agreed to share statistics, you can switch it off in Options at any time, which resets the identifier, or write to me.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, export or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting what was lawful before. The section above explains how to switch the statistics off and what happens to what was already sent. For anything else, write to dev (at) sunnybyte (dot) dev and I will answer within 30 days. You may also complain to your national data-protection authority (in Switzerland, the FDPIC).
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the game introduces anything that handles personal data (advertising, online multiplayer, cloud saves or accounts), this page will be updated and the corresponding Google Play Data safety declaration changed before that version is released, not afterwards. The date at the top always reflects the current text.
