Furin Privacy Policy
Short version: the game has no account. It shows an advertisement only when you choose to watch one in return for a reward, served by Google AdMob; where the law asks for it (Europe, the United Kingdom, Switzerland), Google's consent form asks you first, once, and you can change your answer in the game's menu. There is one optional purchase, the Patron, bought through Google Play or the App Store, which handles the payment: I never see your card or your name; the Patron never sees an advertisement. Your progress stays on your own device. The first time you play, the yard office asks whether the game may send a tally of how it is played (which buttons are pressed, how far a summer gets, whether it runs smoothly, what breaks). If you say Send the tally, it goes to Google Analytics. If you say Keep it here, nothing is sent. You can change your answer at any time in the game's menu.
This policy covers the game Furin(com.sunnybyte.furin) on Android and iOS. The policy for the Sunnybyte website itself is here.
Who is responsible
Sunnybyte is the trading name of an independent software developer based in Geneva, Switzerland, not a registered company. I am the data controller for everything described here; who that is, by name, is on the legal notice.
Questions, or any request about your data: dev (at) sunnybyte (dot) dev.
What the game never collects
The game has no account, no login, no sign-up, no chat and no way to contact other players. It does not ask for your e-mail address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photos, microphone or camera, and it cannot read them. The game's own code does not read your device's advertising identifier, and the tally described below never includes it: every request the tally sends says that the data may not be used for advertising. The advertising identifier is used only by the advertising described further down, and only where you have not switched it off in Android. On iPhone and iPad the game never asks to track you across other companies' apps and websites (it shows no tracking prompt), and does not use Apple's advertising identifier for that.
The tally, only if you say yes
On first launch a note from the yard office sits over the title with two equally easy answers, Keep it here and Send the tally. Until you answer Send the tally, nothing is sent and nothing is even queued. The answer is stored on your device, and the Tally row in the game's menu changes it whenever you like.
Why
To make the game better to play: to see where players stall or do not understand something, whether it runs smoothly on real phones, what breaks, and to tune the pace of a summer (prices, costs, how quickly the yard grows). The tally is never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to build a profile of you.
What is sent, if you agree
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| What happens in the game | When the game is opened and left, which screens are opened and for how long, which buttons are pressed and how often, which upgrades are bought, whether the Patron's offer was opened, bought, restored or refunded and at what price it was shown (never an order number or payment detail), when each act, epoch or milestone of a summer is reached and how long it took, how the game was left (the app going to the background, quitting), options changed (language, theme, keeping the screen awake) |
| How well the game runs | Frames per second, slow frames, memory in use, and errors or crashes the game logs (the error message and where in the game it happened) |
| Device and app information | Device model, Android or iOS version, screen size, memory size, language, colour theme, app version, and the country and city Google derives from your connection (Google Analytics does not store the IP address) |
| A random identifier | Made by the game itself when you first say yes, so that the events of one installation can be counted together. It is not your advertising identifier or your device's hardware identifier, it is not linked to you, and it is deleted from your device when you switch the tally off |
Nothing you type is ever included, because the game does not ask you to type anything. Every request also tells Google that the data may not be used for advertising or ads personalisation, and I do not link the tally to your Google account or any other identity: the features that would (Google Signals, User-ID) are switched off.
Who processes it
The tally is processed by Google Analytics 4, a service of Google Ireland Limited (for users in Europe and Switzerland) and Google LLC, acting as my processor under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms. The game sends it directly to Google over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection: there is no analytics library inside the app. In the Analytics settings, sharing with Google for its own purposes (improving Google products, benchmarking, technical support access, account recommendations) is switched off, and ads personalisation is disabled. Google may process the data on servers outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States, under the safeguards in those terms (standard contractual clauses and the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks). Google's description of how Analytics handles data is at support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245.
Legal basis and how long it is kept
The legal basis is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a), and the consent required for storing an identifier on your device). Google Analytics deletes the detailed event data after 14 months; only aggregated reports that cannot identify anyone remain after that.
Changing your mind
Choose Keep it here in the Tally row of the game's menu. From that moment nothing more is sent, what was still waiting on your device is thrown away, and the random identifier is deleted, so anything sent before can no longer be connected to your installation. Uninstalling the game has the same effect. If you would like the tally already sent to be deleted before the 14 months are up, write to me at the address below; because the data is tied only to a random identifier, I may need you to tell me roughly when you played and on which device so that I can find it.
Advertising
Furin shows rewarded advertisements only, and only when you choose one: a sitting marked "Ad" (the night watch, the away ledger's hour, a mission's second envelope) plays a short advertisement and, once you have seen it through, gives its reward. Nothing is shown unasked: no banner, no advertisement between screens. The Patron never sees one: the reward is granted at once and no advertisement is loaded. When no advertisement is available (you are offline, or none is ready, or you have refused the consent form), the game plays its own quiet sitting with the bells instead, and nothing is contacted for it.
Who serves it, and what it collects
Advertisements are served by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited for users in Europe and Switzerland, Google LLC elsewhere), through the Google Mobile Ads SDK inside the app. To choose, show and measure an advertisement, AdMob collects information from your device and the app: on Android the advertising identifier (unless you have reset or deleted it in Android's settings; on iPhone and iPad no advertising identifier is available to it, because the game never asks for tracking permission, and the SDK uses identifiers of its own and Apple's SKAdNetwork instead), your IP address and approximate location derived from it, the device model, Android version, language and app version, and how you interact with the advertisements (shown, clicked, seen through). Google uses it as an independent controller, under Google's Privacy Policy; how it handles data in apps that use its advertising is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. I receive only aggregated reports (impressions, earnings), nothing about you personally. The Android app declares the advertising-ID permission for this reason, and nothing from the game's own tally is given to AdMob.
Your choice
Where the law requires your consent (the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), Google's consent form appears once, the first time you choose to watch an advertisement. Its choices are Google's: consent, do not consent, or manage options in detail. Until you have answered, no advertisement is requested. You can change your answer at any time with the Ad choices line in the Office tab of the game's menu, which appears wherever the law asks for it. Elsewhere you can limit advertising personalisation, or reset your advertising identifier, in Android's settings (Settings, Google, Ads), or on iPhone and iPad in Settings, Privacy & Security, Apple Advertising. The legal basis for it is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)) where that applies, and otherwise Google's own terms.
The Patron, the one purchase
The game can be played to its end for free. It offers one optional purchase, thePatron, bought once and kept for good. The purchase is made entirely in Google Play's own payment sheet (Android) or the App Store's (iPhone and iPad), underGoogle's Privacy Policyand the Google Play terms, or Apple's Privacy Policy and the App Store terms: the store handles your payment method, billing address and receipt, and I never receive them.
When you buy it, the store tells the game that this account owns the Patron (on Google Play an order number, a purchase token and the product's name; on the App Store a transaction record for the product). The game keeps that confirmation on your device so it remembers you are the Patron, and asks the store again when it starts, so the Patron comes back if you reinstall the game or play on another phone with the same Google or Apple account, and goes away if the purchase is refunded. Refunds are handled by the store. As the seller, I receive from Google or Apple the sales records they give every seller (the order number, date, country and amount); I keep them as long as Swiss accounting law requires and use them for nothing else. The legal basis is the performance of the purchase you asked for (GDPR article 6(1)(b)).
What it stores on your device
So that the game can remember your progress between sessions, it saves the following on the device itself, in the app's own private storage. None of it is uploaded, other than the tally described above if you agreed to send it:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Bells cast, funds, iron on hand, price and similar gameplay counters, and the state of the summer | Your progress in the yard |
| Which stage and upgrades the yard has reached | To resume where you left off |
| The time you last played | To work out what the furnace made while you were away |
| Your chosen language, colour theme and screen-awake option | So the ledger opens as you left it |
| Whether you are the Patron, with the store's confirmation of the purchase | So the Patron's gifts stay yours; the store is asked again at start |
| Your answer to the tally question | So the question is asked once, and your choice is respected |
| How long you have played, and which moments of the summer were already told | So that a later yes does not report old moments as new. Kept on the device whatever you answered, never sent unless you say yes |
If you agreed to send the tally, the game also keeps its random identifier and a short list of events waiting to be sent (for instance while you are offline). Uninstalling the game deletes all of it. None of this is a name, an address, or anything that identifies you personally.
About the permissions the app declares
On iPhone and iPad the game asks for no permission to your data (not the camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location or tracking). The list below is the Android app's.
- INTERNET: to send the tally described above, only if you agreed to send it, to reach the store for the Patron, and to load advertisements.
- com.android.vending.BILLING andACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: declared by Google Play's billing library, so that the game can offer the Patron and check whether Google Play can be reached.
- com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID,ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID,ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION andACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS: declared by Google's advertising SDK so that it can read the advertising identifier and use Android's privacy-preserving ad services, for the advertisements described above. They can be switched off in Android's settings.
The app declares no other permission that touches your data. (Android also lists one named after the game itself, which only keeps the game's own internal messages from other apps.)
What Google and Apple collect
The game is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store, and each store collects its own data when you find, install, update or review an app: your store account, device model and country, for example. That processing is theirs, under Google's Privacy Policyand Apple's Privacy Policy, and is outside my control. From the stores themselves I receive only anonymous, aggregated statistics (install and uninstall counts, ratings, crash reports stripped of identity), which cannot identify you.
Children
Furin is meant for players aged 13 and over. The game has no chat, no social feature and no user-to-user contact of any kind, and apart from the advertising described above it collects nothing from anyone unless the tally question is answered yes. The Patron can only be bought through a Google account in Google Play or an Apple account in the App Store, where a parent can require approval for purchases (Google Play's parental controls and Family Link; Apple's Ask to Buy and Screen Time). The tally never includes a name or any contact detail. If you are a parent and your child agreed to send it, you can switch it off in the game's menu at any time, which deletes the identifier, or write to me.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, export or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting what was lawful before. The section above explains how to switch the statistics off and what happens to what was already sent. For anything else, write to dev (at) sunnybyte (dot) dev and I will answer within 30 days. You may also complain to your national data-protection authority (in Switzerland, the FDPIC).
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the game introduces anything that handles personal data (advertising, online multiplayer, cloud saves or accounts), this page will be updated and the corresponding Google Play Data safety declaration changed before that version is released, not afterwards. The date at the top always reflects the current text.
